Following the regional activities and consultations conducted in Ghana in 2024, a follow-up expert meeting was organised in the framework of ECES' Pro-Electoral Integrity Project, funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation to consolidate the progress achieved and address the remaining technical and pedagogical aspects related to the implementation of the African Union Strategy for the inclusion of the ACDEG in school curricula. The meeting served as an opportunity to assess the outcomes of the previous sessions, review feedback collected from participating stakeholders, and ensure continuity in the finalisation of the educational materials and implementation framework.
The workshop gathered members of the Steering Committee, representatives of the African Union Commission, curriculum development experts, education practitioners, and technical partners involved in the project. Discussions focused on harmonising the recommendations emerging from the Ghana sessions, refining the Learners’ Manuals and Teachers’ Guides, and strengthening the methodological coherence of the pedagogical tools across the different educational levels targeted by the initiative.
Particular attention was dedicated to evaluating the practical applicability of the materials within pilot countries, including their adaptability to national education systems and local contexts. Participants also exchanged views on implementation modalities, teacher preparation, monitoring mechanisms, and strategies to ensure the effective promotion of democratic values, civic responsibility, constitutional governance, and active citizenship through formal education systems.
The follow-up meeting represented an important step in maintaining institutional coordination and technical continuity within the project, while advancing preparations for the pilot implementation phase. It further contributed to reinforcing collaboration between the African Union Commission, education stakeholders, and technical partners involved in promoting ACDEG values through education across the continent.
