Guinea-Bissau launched the Pilot Phase of the AU Project for the inclusion and mainstreaming of the ACDEG in school curricula-African Union - Peace and Security Department

From 4 to 8 July 2023, a technical harmonisation workshop was held in Nairobi, Kenya, bringing together education specialists, curriculum developers, illustrators, and institutional representatives to align and finalise the Teachers’ Guides and Learners’ Manuals ahead of their official presentation and subsequent rollout. The workshop constituted a key milestone in the broader development process of the pedagogical materials, aiming to ensure consistency in methodology, language, learning objectives, and visual identity across all modules.

Throughout the five-day meeting, participants engaged in an intensive review process that combined individual assessments, thematic peer-review sessions, plenary validation exercises, and consultations with the illustrators responsible for the graphic and visual components of the manuals. Particular attention was dedicated to ensuring that the content remained pedagogically coherent, context-sensitive, and accessible to different categories of learners. Discussions also focused on improving the clarity of activities, harmonising terminology, refining the sequencing of lessons, and strengthening the interactive and participatory dimensions of the materials.

The meeting brought together representatives from the African Union Commission,, education and civic engagement experts, and staff members from ECES, who jointly contributed to validating both the technical and educational aspects of the documents. The presence of illustrators during the workshop also allowed for direct exchanges on how visual elements could better support learning outcomes, inclusivity, and user engagement. By the end of the workshop, the participants had consolidated a common framework for the final versions of the manuals, marking an important step toward the completion and operationalisation of the pedagogical tools for future implementation activities.
