Each phase of the Pro-Electoral Integrity project, implemented under the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between ECES and the Political Affairs, Peace and Security Department - PAPS of the African Union, is submitted for funding to the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs through the Italy-Africa Peace Facility (IAPF). To this end, ECES and the African Union have jointly developed activities and missions aligned with the AU's needs and the priorities of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In line with Article 2 of the 2007 Agreement between the Government of Italy and the African Union Commission on managing the IAPF, each proposal focuses on two main areas of action: Conflict Prevention and Post-Conflict Peace-Building. The latter includes support for AU assessment missions and assistance to countries emerging from conflicts.

Accordingly, every project activity proposal must align with either Conflict Prevention (Result Area 1) or Post-Conflict Peace-Building (Result Area 2).
