The Mattei Plan for Africa is a plan of national interest that has been launched by the Italian Government to drive a paradigm shift in relations with the African continent and build equal partnerships, moving beyond a donor-recipient logic and generating mutual benefits and opportunities.

The Government presented the Plan’s structure and general principles, as well as possible areas for cooperation, to African nations on the occasion of the Italia-Africa Summit on 29 January 2024, held for the first time at the level of Heads of State and Government. Representatives from 46 African nations attended this summit, with more than 25 Heads of State and Government, together with the three Presidents of the European institutions and the heads of the United Nations, the African Union, international organisations, financial institutions and multilateral development banks.
