ECES at the Sustainable Financing for Elections in the SADC Region Conference in Maputo
We are pleased to have participated in the conference on Sustainable Financing for Elections in the SADC Region: Needs, Challenges and Opportunities is held in Maputo on November 3rd and 4th. Organised by the Instituto para Democracia Multipartidaria - IMD and the Electoral Commissions Forum of Southern African Development Community - ECF – SADC, the conference was hosted by the Election Management Bodies (EMBs) of Mozambique.
The objective of the conference was to promote learning, cooperation, and exchange of experiences among electoral management bodies on the sustainability of electoral financing at the country level in the SADC region.
Through our founder and Executive Director, Fabio Bargiacchi, we intervened on the topic: “The role of states and international organisations in making electoral financing mechanisms more flexible”.
The conference brought together around 60 participants from ECF-SADC and representatives of the electoral management bodies from the SADC region; and representatives of Mozambican democratic institutions, with a particular focus on the Government of Mozambique, Parliament, Judicial Power Bodies; Civil Society Organizations; Journalists; Academics; Diplomatic Entities; Religious Institutions; Private Sector; Cooperation and Development Agencies and Political Parties.
